‘FORCES OF NATURE’

RHS Flower Show Hampton Court – 2010
Silver-gilt medal award

Site – Triangular plot approximately 40msq

Brief – Design and build a garden as part of the Flower Show’s ‘Conceptual’ garden exhibit

Design – ‘Forces of Nature’ was designed to evoke, in a theatrical setting, the ambiguous relationship between mankind and nature, one of both exploitation and cooperation. By using plants and natural materials in a sculptural and playful way the garden creates an intriguing and thought-provoking display that reflects upon this interaction. Through time humans have sought to understand, harness, and increasingly to dominate the world around them. This evolving relationship, and ultimately mankind’s perhaps precarious and limited role in history, is suggested by the shape of the garden plot, and the balance between the figure and the trees.
